An exceptional collection of authentic 19th-century ecclesiastical goldwork ornaments, exquisitely handcrafted in silk, metallic gold threads, sequins, faceted glass stones and raised embroidery. This remarkable group was most likely created to embellish the garments of a dressed Madonna or Santos devotional figure rather than for clerical vestments.

The collection includes three long ornamental bands, each richly embroidered with elaborate goldwork and religious motifs, a magnificent central embroidered ornament featuring the IHS/JHS Christogram surrounded by raised gold embroidery and sparkling faceted glass stones, together with two circular devotional appliqués. One depicts the Sacred Heart of Jesus, while the other is decorated with the IHS/JHS monogram, both executed entirely by hand using silk, metallic threads and fine embroidery techniques.

Every piece displays the extraordinary craftsmanship associated with 19th-century ecclesiastical embroidery workshops. The rich relief created by padded goldwork, hand-laid metallic threads and individually applied decorative elements demonstrates the amount of skilled labour invested in their creation. These are not printed or machine-made decorations, but genuine handcrafted religious textiles.

Such ornaments were traditionally used to enrich the appearance of devotional statues—especially dressed Madonnas or Santos figures—during feast days, processions and important religious celebrations. They also make exceptional display pieces for collectors of antique religious art, ecclesiastical textiles, goldwork embroidery and museum-quality devotional objects.

The pieces retain their beautiful antique character, with age-related wear, losses and patina consistent with their history and devotional use. These signs of age enhance their authenticity and should be regarded as part of the story of these remarkable nineteenth-century textiles.

A rare and highly decorative collection, ideal for collectors of antique religious textiles, ecclesiastical embroidery, goldwork, devotional art, Santos figures, Madonna ornaments, church antiques and historical textile collections.
